Three Signs That You Need to Repair Your Carpet ASAP

Posted on

Carpet is one of the most common flooring materials used in America and, indeed, the world. Not only is it almost always the most comfortable option, but it is also quite cheap and can be surprisingly durable. However, when problems with your carpet do arise you should take care of them as soon as you can because otherwise, this structural failure can begin to affect the entire carpet. Minor carpet patching is much cheaper and easier to do, and all you need to do is be aware of the signs that your carpet needs some small repairs.

Here are three of the most common signs that can warn you about impending disaster.

1. Wrinkles

Wrinkled carpet can cause all sorts of never-ending issues that can only be solved by carpet repair services. You can tell a carpet is wrinkled fairly easily when the problem is widespread, but the first time it occurs, when it can be carpet patching could fix it most easily, is more tricky. Always look around the edges of your carpet, and see if the carpet looks stretched too thinly in other areas for a clue about where the wrinkling could be. Don't cover up wrinkles with a rug or chair, as the problem will soon spread.

2. Mold

A very different problem to most of the others, mold can still be very expensive if you are not proactive about defeating it. The signs of mold are more nuanced, as often you will smell it before you see it. If you get a rotting or dead smelling aroma around the carpet then be on the lookout. Do not simply treat one area of the mold in your carpet with stain remover, as the mold will be much more spread out underneath. If you are lucky, carpet patching can be done to fix the problem in its infancy, but if not then you may need more drastic repairs.

3. Fraying

If your carpet wasn't installed so well then it can begin to fray at the seams within a few years. This is quite an easy solution for most carpet repair services because all they need to do is finish the job already started for them by securing the carpet. If left alone, fraying will eventually lead to a loose carpet that bunches up under your feet and starts to reveal the bare floor underneath. In rare cases, some of your carpeting may need to be replaced to make a better and more even surface, but that can be stopped with an early response on your part.
